M.A.R.S. - McMaster Association of Religious Studies
Our purpose is to create connections between students and faculty in the Religious Studies Program at McMaster University, to encourage the pursuit of Religious Studies as an interest and a profession, and to provide the opportunity to better understand religions and their role on shaping society We work with you to make your experience in McMaster Religious Studies amazing by:
- holding monthly general meetings,
- organizing trips to houses of worship,
- holding a Meet the Profs Night,
- organizing a trip to the ROM,
- and more!
Our Logo
The symbol on the logo is popularly known as the "flower of life." The symbol is an example of sacred geometry, which a lot of religious traditions use as a tool to conceptualize their connectivity to the world around them. It's a symbol of both spirituality and scientific logic; and so it represents our goal to explore the various forms of logic expressed in the religious experience.

Time: 4:30pm-7:30pm
Featuring: Joyce Smith on the representation of religion in the media! Smith has an immense amount of experience in the field of Journalism. She has worked with the Globe and Mail, as well as the Toronto Star. Her research interests include: the representation of religion in news media, quantitative and qualitative content analysis, online journalism, South African media, and she is interested in problem solving ad design pedagogy.
